Rolling Stone not only became the leading magazine in rock, but covert a lot more: movies, fashion literature and, prominently politics. Be warned. This is heavy stuff. Quite literally: these four volumes weigh almost seven kilo’s. (sorry ‘bout the shipping costs). Between 300 and 720 pages thick. Sturdy work. And all in prime condition. Really. Nearly forty years old they truly look like new. I confess: never read. Bought and put on the shelf.
Shame on me. They are wonderful. Extra-ordinary writing by the best rock-journalists, interviewing the biggest stars who gave their most revealing stories. Accompanied by work of some of the best photographers in the business. Writers Hunter S. Thompson, Kurt Loder, Christopher Crowe, Greil Marcus, David Fricke, Tom Wolfe, Anthony DeCurtis, Richard Avedon, Anne Lebovitz. Meeting everybody: Michael Jackson, Springsteen, Dylan, Robin Williams, Clapton, Sting, Bowie Townshend, Lennon, Eastwood, Kubrick, McCartney, Bowie, Baez, Costello, Byrne, Joel. But also stories about Woodstock, Vietnam, Nixon, Kent State, Patty Hearst, cocaine, Watergate.
