He owned a goldsmith's shop in Nancy before establishing himself, in the 1850s, as a bronze art and jewelry dealer, 85 rue Montmartre in Paris. He published a certain number of bronzes from Fratin, Cumberworth... He would have used intermediaries to sell his own bronzes which rarely bear his mark. During the Universal Exhibition of 1867, he was cited among the renowned founders of the time. His son succeeded him after his death in 1885.
