Description from the seller

Very beautiful antique Russian icon as a 'Staurothekikon' from the 19th century with four border saints.

Hand-painted on a wooden panel with egg tempera paints on a chalk ground and gold leafing. A typical method of icon creation in 18th and 19th century Tsarist Russia. The motif is rather rare and highly valued in the Orthodox Church.

The painting style and color scheme of the icon clearly indicate that it was created in the well-known icon-painting village of VETKA.

This is an Old Believer icon. The painting is quite masterful and detailed (see photos).

Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and successful shading. The painting contains very authentic crackles (see photos).

Partial restorations and minor corrections are present (see photos). The faces of the saints are particularly expressive and striking (see photos). The saints are labeled. The labels are partly difficult to read.

The forehead plaques are embedded at the top and bottom. Stable and solid wooden plaque. The icon is in good condition with typical signs of age-related wear (see photos).

All details are clearly visible in the photos. Photos are part of the description.

Dimensions: 27.5x22.5x3 cm
