Description from the seller
Marinus Bies (1894–1975) was a Dutch painter from Aarle-Rixtel, best known as the 'painter of the Peel.' Mostly self-taught, he developed into a talented landscape painter under the influence of Herman Moerkerk and A.M. Gorter. From 1933, he worked full-time as an artist and captured the Brabant Peel landscape in atmospheric, often somber-toned paintings full of light and silence. His work shows a kinship with Flemish expressionism, where emotion and atmosphere are more important than realistic depiction.
This painting depicts a simple farm house with a red roof, hidden among slender trees. The soft lighting and warm, earthy tones give the scene an intimate atmosphere. The brushwork is loose and impressionistic, resulting in a lively texture and spontaneous appearance.
The frame has some damage.
Dimensions with frame: 56 x 66 cm
Dimensions without frame: 50 x 60 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
