A restrung Western Asiatic restrung necklace composed of small shell and hardstone beads. The beads display a variety of shapes, including rounded, tubular, and more irregular shapes, but are of a nearly uniform size. Each features unique striations and hues of white, cream and beige. Some minor wear to the surface, such as scratches and pitting, and earthy encrustations consistent with age. Please note, the necklace is unclasped and threaded on a string. Jewellery is thought to be one of the oldest forms of art within history, with the presence of rings, bangles and necklaces’ being present in almost all ancient societies. The western Asiatic during Mesopotamia is home to many interesting and unique jewellery patterns, with gemstones being the material of choice for ancient citizens to decorate themselves with. The sophisticated nature of the society can be seen through their jewellery making skills with elaborate patterns and carvings being common find. Measurements (circa): Half length 32cm Beaded half-length: 20cm Provenance: Ex Japanese private collection, deceased, 1970-2010. N.B.
