Description from the seller
Silver (tested) portable pyxide for holy oils – 19th century
Small cylindrical silver liturgical vessel intended for transporting holy oils by priests during visits to the sick. It has a thick, robust shape, with a domed lid mounted on a side hinge, and a reinforced closure secured by a hand-shaped external lug.
Gross interior, non-enameled, characteristic of single-compartment pyxides reserved for the O.I. (Oleum Infirmorum).
The body features a decoration of fine circular moldings typical of utilitarian productions from the second half of the 19th century. Homogeneous patina, genuine use.
Authentic, simple, and functional liturgical object, probably originating from a mission kit or a rural priest's viaticum.
Condition: wear from use, small marks, solid hinge, functional closure.
Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. They allow you to assess their condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
