Description:
Elegant still life depicting a bouquet of white and yellow chrysanthemums in a vase, created with soft and luminous brushwork typical of early 20th-century painting. The work perfectly expresses the decorative sensibility and chromatic refinement of Marcel de Chollet, a Geneva-based painter and decorator active between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Artist trained in Paris, de Chollet was known for his wall decorations and floral motifs that adorned numerous public and private interiors. He participated in several exhibitions, including the Société des Artistes Indépendants, as evidenced by the original label preserved on the back of this canvas, which attests to its presentation at the 1911 edition.
The composition, with its intimate and poetic tone, highlights the quality of the painting material and the soft light enveloping the flowers, elements that evoke the best Swiss post-impressionist and decorative tradition.
Condition
Overall good condition, with surface craquelure consistent with the age of the work; canvas stretched on the original frame. The gilded frame is contemporary, with slight signs of aging.
Origin
Private collection, Switzerland.
