Chinese carpets trace back to a centuries-old tradition and are among the most significant handicrafts of East Asia. They combine intricate patterns, high-quality materials, and profound cultural symbolism into unique rugs that are valued both as floor coverings and wall decorations.

Origin and history
The history of Chinese carpet weaving art dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD). Especially in western China, such as the Ningxia region or later in Beijing, intricate carpets were created, often for the imperial court. From the 19th century onward, Chinese carpets gained increasing international significance and were exported to Europe and America.
