Description from the seller
An Amlash greyware jar featuring a globular body resting on a flat base and rising to a wide slightly-funnel shaped neck. The base of the neck is encircles with a subtle ridge. There are signs of ageing such as chipping, pitting, surface roughness and earthly encrustations on the surface. Chipping and some evidence of repair to the rim.
The term ‘Amlash Culture’, has generally been used to designate material cultures excavated at Gilan, an archaeological site of ancient Iran, and refers to a group of Iron Age pottery and metal executions with a strong visual character. Terracotta vessels of this type were clearly designed as pouring vessels, but they might have been also used during religious occasions.
Measurements: H 11cm x W 9.5cm
Provenance: Ex. specialist Near Eastern pottery collection, London, 1990s.
N.B. Delivery may be longer due to the busier period and we do not guarantee delivery before Christmas. Items paid for after the 19th December will be shipped after the New Year (week commencing on the 5th January 2026). **There will be an additional fee incurred for returned shipments due to buyer’s non-response to customs enquiries and/or unsuccessful delivery attempts.**
