Driade - Philippe Starck - Chair - Iron - Philippe Starck "Costes"

Philippe Starck “Costes” Dining Chairs for Driade, Leather, Plywood and Steel, Italy, 1984, Set of 2. There are objects that are universally recognized as icons. The Costes armchair, which, in 1984, marked the beginning of the partnership between Philippe Starck and Driade, as well as the consecration of the designer, previously unknown in Italy, is one of these objects. Designed for the now defunct Parisian café of the same name, it owes its timeless success to the absoluteness of its forms: an embracing structure in dark wood with three strongly inclined legs. The famous Costes armchair by Philippe Starck is offered to us in a new version with different wood essences. Costes is an armchair that, in 1984, marked the beginning of the collaboration between the child prodigy Philippe Starck and Driade, as well as his official entry into the Olympus of design. With its simple style, enveloping wooden body and three metal legs, Costes immediately established itself as an icon of 20th century design, sold in millions of copies, copied countless times and present in any contemporary design collection. Costes now exists in two versions: the original with a mahogany body and this new one with different essences. All have a fixed polyurethane seat cushion covered in black or light leather and legs in black painted steel tubing.
