Late 19th‑century Italian secretaire à abattant in walnut, with a warm, mottled grain and a fall‑front desk.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Late 19th-century Italian drop-front secretary, crafted in splendid walnut feather with a warm and lively grain.

The structure is healthy and stable, resting on elegant full-foot pedestals and equipped with all original locks, perfectly functional. It features an openable writing desk with a green leather top decorated in gold abalone; inside, there are three small drawers and two open compartments useful for documents and writing tools. The front is divided by four drawers: a smaller upper one and three larger ones below.

It should be noted that there are some missing threads, a crack on the right side, a line on the outer part of the writing desk, and slight signs of use, along with a slight warping of the top towards the right, visible only when open. On the back and on the linings, which are a mix of walnut and poplar, the original marks of hand planes and saws are clearly visible. Guides have been partially replaced to improve sliding.

Seller's Story

I have always been passionate about our past, knowing it is the only thing that does not cease the connection between what is and what was. When I reached the right age I understood that my passion had to coincide with my work and so I opened a business. The key principles are quality and love towards the customer. Francesco Secondo
