Peace Fingers is one of Shepard Fairey’s most recognizable works, originally created in 2006 during the period of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Fairey uses the universal “V” hand gesture to express a message of peace, resistance and non-violent conflict resolution. The piece reflects his signature visual language, blending propaganda-style graphics, bold composition and strong social commentary.
Over the years, Peace Fingers has appeared in multiple forms: posters, offset lithographs in different sizes, signed-edition prints and even resin sculptures, all of which preserve the iconic look of the original design. These later versions have helped solidify the artwork as a lasting symbol of Fairey’s pacifist and activist approach, reinforcing his role as one of the most influential contemporary artists working with political and socially engaged imagery.
Shepard Fairey belongs to the same generation of artists as Alessio B., Arsham, Bambi, Banksy, Ben Eine, Blek the Rat, C215, D*Face, Dran, Eelus, Faile, Fin Dac, Gaia, Herakut, Howishisnombre, Imbue, Invader, JR, JonOne, Kaws, Logan Hicks, Martin Whatson, Mr. Brainwash, Nick Walker, Pure Evil, Seth, Speedy Graphito, Swoon, Tabby, and Trust.Icon.
