Rutilio Muti was born in 1904 in Vicchio, Mugello. Although he began his painting career late, his passion for drawing was evident from a young age. Working with his father, he had the opportunity to visit every corner of the Vicchio area and the surrounding regions. This persistent exploration of the territory, undertaken in his youth, left a mark that later influenced his artistic choices. In 1925, he began to dedicate himself seriously to painting.
Even in his early paintings, the beauties of peasant Mugello were the main theme. In 1928, he met the painter Ferruccio Rontini, who became his master. In 1930, Rutilio Muti had his first solo exhibition in Florence.
In the 1930s-40s, he travelled across Italy with Rontini, painting and selling his own paintings.
In the sixties, he painted Venice and Marina di Ravenna, demonstrating his ability to interpret landscapes so distant from his Mugello with poetry and personality. In 1975, a comprehensive exhibition was held in Vicchio to celebrate his fifty years of painting.
