Description from the seller
“Inferno” (2025)
Oil on canvas
180 x 130 cm
Without reserve price
Deep red oil paint covers this canvas, but far from uniform. Visible brushstrokes create a complex surface where the single shade of red takes on different characters depending on how it’s been worked. Some areas show directional marks, others appear more built up or scraped back, creating a field of subtle variation across the intense color.
Represented by S-Gallery and available on Catawiki with no reserve price, this piece shows how surface treatment can activate a monochrome field. That single red becomes multiple reds through application alone - the way light catches worked paint versus smooth paint, thick versus thin, directional versus random. The substantial format turns this into an enveloping experience.
The brushwork remains visible throughout, a deliberate choice that keeps the making process present in the finished piece. It’s red that refuses to sit still, constantly shifting in intensity and character as the eye moves across its textured surface.
Shipping:
The work is delivered without a frame (professional packaging, rolled in a tube). it can easily be restretched by a professional or on your own, this is also cheaper then the otherwise increased cost of shipping when sending paintings of this size stretched
The measurements indicated are those of the painting stretched and mounted on a frame (The actual
measurements of the canvas are larger to allow it to be mounted on a frame 2-4cm thick.
