Antique lock from the Victorian era, in metal with Vittoriano style, dating to 1850–1900, bearing the 'Improved Tumbler Lock' designation.
Description from the seller
Elegant and authentic Victorian-era English padlock, made around 1890. The object features a sturdy steel structure with brass details, including the characteristic engraved plate 'Improved Tumbler Lock,' typical of late Victorian models.
The design, with its distinctive 'mouse-shaped' form often used on late 19th-century security padlocks, is complemented by the original forged iron key, still functional, with an antique ring and cord. The internal tumbler mechanism — innovative for its time — is still operable, and the padlock's shackle is shown open to demonstrate the piece's full structural integrity.
Conditions: uniform patina consistent with the age, non-invasive surface oxidation, no significant alteration. Mechanism and key fit correctly.
Typical proportions of padlocks for boxes or gates from that era.
A rare and highly sought-after item among Victorian antiquities collectors, perfect both as a display piece and as an addition to a collection of historical locks.
