“Boerenerf” by Sebastianus Bakermans (1901-1984), an oil painting from 1950–1960 in the Netherlands, in the Impressionism style, sold with frame, with framed dimensions 74 x 89 cm.
Description from the seller
Sebastianus Bakermans (1901-1984) was a Dutch painter, born in ’s-Hertogenbosch and later active in Eindhoven and Knegsel. He studied at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. In the 1930s, he, along with others, founded an art school in Strijp (Eindhoven) and received the Royal Subsidy for Painting twice.
Bakermans mainly worked in a naturalistic style, with an emphasis on landscapes and portraits. His paintings are characterized by a subtle use of color and a calm, balanced composition. One of his works, Zuid-Willemsvaart, is part of the collection at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.
This painting depicts a Brabant farmer's yard in the last light of the day. The low sun casts a warm glow over the roofs, while the rest of the yard is already shrouded in shadow. The gentle transition from light to dark emphasizes the stillness of the moment: work is done, and the day is coming to an end.
The work has a few paint damages.
This artwork comes from the collection of the Eindhoven Museum. As part of the transition to Museumpark Vonk, selected works are being disposed of so that the museum can fully focus on the history and identity of Eindhoven.
Dimensions with frame: 74 x 89 cm
Dimensions without frame: 63 x 78 cm
The work is available for viewing at our gallery. Furthermore, Art Dumay has a framing shop (celebrating their 85th anniversary this year) and a restoration studio. If you wish to make use of these services, we would be happy to hear from you.
