Description from the seller
Intaglio in Madagascar jasper – Flame shape
A block of Madagascar jasper, chosen for the richness of its veining and the intensity of its warm tones, has been transformed into this flame-shaped sculpture, polished to achieve a lively, almost moving surface. The gradations of ochre yellow blend with gray and charcoal patches, creating a natural contrast that recalls the still-hot material inside a lava flow. The cut follows a decisive vertical line, interrupted by soft edges that reflect light irregularly: each face captures a flash, each curve reveals a different shade. This play of solids and voids highlights the typical complexity of Malagasy jasper, where micro-inclusions and more compact zones alternate without ever repeating. The lower part, more textured and earthy, tells of the stone’s sedimentary origin, while the summit, lighter and clearer, seems to dissolve upward like a rising flame. It is an object that functions both as a decorative sculpture and as an energetic presence: the flame shape, combined with the stability of jasper, suggests strength, grounding, and transformation. A unique piece, designed for those seeking a contemporary form carved from an ancient stone millions of years old.
