ETI Paris - Phildar - les Bonnes Laines - Edouard Courchinoux - Advertising sign - External shop front advertising sign - Metal

In surprisingly great condition painted on metal (so no enamel!) double sided front shop advertising sign for the leading wool brand Phildar. Featuring a light-hearted drawing by Edouard Courchinoux. Edouard Courchinoux had his own advertising agency in the 1920s and 1930s in both Paris and by the coast and was a talented illustrator. Phildar likely contacted him before WWII for this drawing that of course Phildar had the right to use in later publicity’s, like this shop sign. The image is identical on both sides. The sign was made by ETI in Paris. It has a folded rim with 5 pre-drilled holes so it can be attached to the wall above a wool/knitting/mercenary shop window or door at the time. Condition: Very good. These painted metal outdoor signs often show their age to the extreme with rust, extensive paint wear and discoloration. Compared to many other this one is an exceptional condition. The colors are still amazingly deep and fresh with the cappuccino brown still nicely dark. There are a few patches where this background color is a little lighter, especially on one side. The other main colors, burgundy red and green, haven’t changed color at all. As this is a used outdoor sign of course there are some scuffs, scratches and an incidental small dent but overall this well over half a decade old sign aged surprisingly well. Please refer to the pictures for the best impression of the condition.
