Indus Valley zoomorphic figures - 12 cm

This set of zoomorphic ceramic figures, originally from the Indus Valley, dates back to the 2nd millennium BC and represents a fascinating sample of the art and culture of this early civilization. Each figure is hand-modeled with incised details and decorative patterns, suggesting symbolic or ritual use. The animals depicted include cattle and horses, fundamental elements in the economy and iconography of Indus Valley societies. It is believed that these figures could have served as votive offerings, toys or even didactic models to represent livestock, essential for subsistence at the time. Indus Valley pottery is distinguished by its careful manufacture and the use of geometric or dotted patterns to decorate surfaces. The presence of details such as prominent horns, spine markings and expressive faces indicates a strong artistic stylization, characteristic of the Harappan culture and its surroundings. Archaeological parallels suggest that such figurines were common in settlements such as Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, where numerous similar examples have been found. These pieces offer a window into the symbolic thought of the period and its relationship to the animal world.Superb zoomorphic figures in ceramic from the Indus valley. 2nd Millennium BC.
