Description from the seller
Russian icon of Christ Pantocrator with a silver oklad (84 zolotniks) - Russia, 19th century
Beautiful portable icon depicting Christ Pantocrator, blessing with the right hand and holding the open Gospel with the left. The painted parts (face and hands) are created using the traditional egg tempera technique on wood.
The icon is covered with a repoussé and engraved silver oklad, finely decorated with geometric and vegetal motifs, with a radiant nimbus around Christ's head. At the bottom, the Cyrillic inscription: ГДЬ. ВСЕДЕРЖ ('Lord Almighty').
On the side border, there is the Russian silver hallmark of 84 zolotniks (875/1000), accompanied by the initials 'АА', identifying the silversmith. This silver standard was used in the Russian Empire from 1798 to 1917.
State: patina of age on the silver, but overall very well preserved.
