Russian icon of Christ Pantocrator – 1888 - Russia
Painted wood, tempera, and silver riza (hallmark 84 zolotniki), Moscow assay, engraved and nielloed.
Russia, dated 1888, jeweler AK, hallmark BG (Moscow).
Small icon depicting Christ Pantocrator (Господь Вседержитель), blessing with the right hand and holding the open Gospel with the left.
Face and hands painted in tempera on levkas, protected by a riza in finely chiseled solid silver with geometric and radiating motifs.
The Cyrillic inscription at the bottom identifies the subject: Господь Вседержитель ('Lord Almighty').
Perfectly legible hallmarks on the border: Moscow, 1888, 84 purity mark, master goldsmith AK (probably A. Kovalev or a related workshop).
Overall good condition, minor paint wear, slight tarnishing of the silver.
