According to legend, the Bozo, a fishing people of Mali, are descendants of Faaro, the water spirit and creator of the world. The unveiling of the Bozo masks and puppets celebrates this myth of origins, their relationship with land and aquatic animals. Accompanied by singing and drums, the dance of masked individuals alternates with that of sogow, large masks representing animals that are sometimes mythical, sometimes real.
