1970a - Ron Bacardi Carta Blanca Superior - 1.0 Litre - 3 bottles
Bacardi Superior Rum – Carta Blanca (Spain, Malaga)
Possibly the first Rom-Cola combination that was called "Cubalibre"
4 peseta capsule labels
The label clearly states:
“BACARDI y Cía. S.A. – Spain – Malaga” “Produced with authorization and under the supervision of Bacardi & Company Ltd.” This has historical significance.
HISTORY OF “Bacardi y Cía. S.A.” (Malaga, Spain)
Origin in Cuba (1862–1960)
Bacardi was founded in Santiago de Cuba in 1862. “Carta Blanca” rum is its most famous product and one of the best-selling white rums in the world. Leaving Cuba and International Expansion
In 1960, following expropriation by the Castro regime, Bacardi moved its production out of Cuba. This marked the beginning of the next stage:
Offices were established in Puerto Rico, Mexico, the Bahamas…
And also an office in Spain, in Malaga, to cover Europe.
Why Málaga?
Historic port with a maritime trade tradition
Tax incentives for alcohol imports
Strategic location for European distribution
During the 1960s and 70s, many bottles circulating in Spain were produced or bottled there.
“Produced with authorization and under the supervision of Bacardi & Company Ltd.” This confirms that the Spanish plant was not 100% independent, but rather strictly followed the original Bacardi recipe.
Design of “Carta Blanca – Light Dry” in a 1970s style
Although the label says “Bacardi y Cía. S.A.,” it is not a traditional winery, but rather:
A distillery/production and bottling plant
Located in Málaga
Authorized by the parent company to produce Bacardi for the Spanish and European markets
These types of plants were commonly called “bodegas” in Spanish documents of the time, even though they were distilleries.
Always in a private cellar with controlled temperature.
