Large Balinese Rangda mask carved from wood with animal hair, originating from Bali, Indonesia, dating to the late 20th century (circa 1980–2000), measuring 77 cm high, 28 cm wide and 14 cm deep, in good condition with minor signs of wear, intended as a wall object and sold without a stand.
Description from the seller
Large and fully Balinese Rangda mask, hand-carved from wood and richly painted in traditional colors. The mask depicts Rangda, the demon queen from the Balinese Barong-Rangda dance, recognizable by its large, rounded eyes, carved teeth, tusks, and expressive facial features. A striking feature of this piece is the long fabric tongue hanging from the mask, almost reaching the full height. This tongue is finished with hair strips along the edges and several metal ornaments with inlaid mirrors, which, according to Balinese tradition, are meant to ward off negative energy.
The whole has a strong decorative presence and is beautifully showcased as a wall object, as seen in the photo of the fully hung mask. The back reveals the authentic hand-carved structure of the wood. The estimated age is late 20th century, circa 1980–2000, originating from Bali, Indonesia.
The mask is 77 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 14 cm deep. The condition is good, with some light signs of use and minor damages consistent with its age and handcrafted nature, without detracting from its appearance. The photos provide an accurate impression of its condition.
The mask is carefully packed and sent by registered mail.
