Iron palingsteker from circa 1900–1910, hand-forged wrought iron with an original patina.
Description from the seller
This antique eel spear from the early 20th century is a beautiful example of traditional fishing equipment as it was used around 1900. The five sharp, barbed teeth are designed to efficiently catch eels in shallow water. The entire piece is hand-forged and displays a lovely, original patina that comes with over a century of age.
The cylindrical sleeve allows the plug to be placed on a wooden shaft, making the tool fully operational during fishing. This type of tool was widely used in the Netherlands and Belgium and has now become a popular collector's item for enthusiasts of maritime history and folk customs.
A characterful piece of heritage that offers a special insight into craftsmanship and fishing traditions from over a hundred years ago.
