Description from the seller
Chris Evert was constantly at the top of world tennis in the 1970s and 1980s and was ranked number 1 in the WTA rankings on two separate occasions between 1974 and 1981.
Among the first female players to adopt the two-handed backhand, she had already made a name for herself as an amateur by defeating peers of the caliber of Margaret Court, Virginia Wade, and Billie Jean King; after turning professional, she won the 1974 French Open at age 19, her first Grand Slam title in a series of 18 and more generally 154 tournaments overall.
Throughout her nearly twenty-year career, Evert boasts a victory percentage of over 90% in matches played (1304 out of 1448), a record in both women's and men's tennis. Her unbeaten streak of 125 consecutive wins on clay courts is also unmatched; she remained undefeated on this surface from 1973 to 1979. Specifically in women's tennis, she also holds the record for winning at least one Slam tournament for 13 consecutive seasons from 1974 to 1986 inclusive.
Thanks to such results, Chris Evert is considered one of the greatest champions in the history of sports and disciplines; her rivalry with another multiple Grand Slam-winning tennis player from that era, Martina Navrátilová, is part of the history and culture of tennis.
Since 1995, Evert has been listed in the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
