Carel Frederik Bendorp's 1852 oil on canvas titled De passanten, a Romantic 19th‑century Dutch landscape with a family scene, measuring 121 cm wide by 80 cm high and sold with the frame.
Description from the seller
Carel Frederik Bendorp was a Dutch painter, draftsman, and etcher best known for his detailed landscapes, cityscapes, and topographical representations. Born in 1819 in Dordrecht, he came from an artistic family: he was the grandson of the well-known etcher Carel Frederik Bendorp (1736–1814), and grew up in an environment where visual art and craftsmanship were central.
Although Bendorp was mainly praised for his precise landscapes and cityscapes, this work reveals a more narrative and intimate side of his artistry. It depicts an evening or early morning scene, where a family is on the move under a warm, golden-yellow illuminated sky. The high horizon and the silhouette-like contrast between the figures and the dazzling sky give the painting an almost poetic atmosphere.
Dimensions of work with frame: 80 x 89 cm
Dimensions of work without frame: 54 x 63 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
