WONDERFUL JAMBIYA - Yemen

Hilts we’re usually of horn. The silver granulation and dot inlay is really good on this one . In Yemen the master silversmiths were Jewish and they were especially known for very precise granulation work. Also for the so called tablet weaving on the embroidered belts. Most Yemeni Jews emigrated to Israel beginning in the 1950s and it made a difference in the deco style and workmanship of locally produced jambiyas. Short, curved engraved blade, hourglass handle (often horn), and curved scabbard (called jafir, azib, or jihaz), worn on the belt. Meaning: Symbol of prestige, honor, and identity, traditionally worn by men aged 14 and older, especially on ceremonial occasions.
