A pair of Empire-period gilded bronze candlesticks from France, dating 1800–1850, with fluted balusters on a richly decorated circular base and mercury gilding showing minor age wear; each candlestick measures about 15 cm high by 10 cm wide and 10 cm deep, two items in total.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Elegant pair of Empire-era candlesticks, made of bronze, perfectly chiseled and gilded, displaying all the stylistic characteristics of the early 19th century First Empire.

The barrels are torse-shaped and fluted, typical of neoclassical vocabulary inspired by antique columns. They rest on a circular base richly decorated with a frieze of finely pierced water leaves, highlighted by a row of beads along the edge.

With their bobèche. Mercury gilding, in good condition, with only a small label having been placed on a bobèche, which caused a slight loss of gilding.
