Elly de Koster - 45 exlibris, diepdrukken by Elly de Koster, 45 original ex libris in diepdrukken, signed and largely hand-coloured, formats from 20×30 mm to 105×55 mm, dated 1980–2000, in good condition.
Description from the seller
45 ex libris on name, various themes, mostly nature. Made by the Dutch artist Elly de Koster. All are intaglio prints (etchings), mostly hand-colored. Some have been partially adhered. All signed.
The formats vary, with the largest measuring 105x55 mm and the smallest 20x30 mm. All are original items, not replicas, and are in good condition.
Elly de Koster was born in Terneuzen, Netherlands, in 1948, and passed away in 2015. She studied graphic art at the Kunstacademie of Eeklo, Belgium, where she mainly attended evening and weekend classes. Her teachers were Roger Nöel for graphics and Mr. Bauens for drawing and nude studies. She graduated in 1986 with the highest distinction.
The artist became acquainted with Exlibris during her studies and, as she herself says: '...they became my first love. These small artworks are so special and powerful, you can give them anything you want and they can tell so much. After all these years, they are still my first love.'
The ex-libris by Elly de Koster, however, deserves a special mention among contemporary ex-libris graphic artists. They not only demonstrate great skill and perfection in the techniques of intaglio printing, particularly etching and aquatint, but also exhibit mastery in drawing.
Because most ex-libris are hand-colored, the final result is generally stunning. The intelligent use and combination of colors, which create contrast and depth, is one of the main features of Elly de Koster's creations.
Each work is unique and a testament to sensitivity and a restless spirit that seeks beauty and knows how to depict it.
Designing and creating an ex libris is not an easy task and requires specific skills and talents in the artistic creative process, as a certain degree of interaction must exist with the person who ordered the ex libris. Elly de Koster's ex libris have this magic because they reflect the taste and personality of their owner. Interpreting the intentions of the future bearer should be an essential part of the creative process of ex libris, and Elly de Koster has mastered this to perfection.
Kosters' birds, cats, owls, horses, goats, insects, and not to forget the snake – in her own ex-libris – are not only depicted accurately but also full of expression and movement.
Taking photos are part of the description.
