Portrait of Niels Stensen, 19th century oil painting on canvas from Europe, signed on a plaque, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Ancient Portrait of an Ecclesiastical Figure – 19th Century
Elegant oil painting on canvas depicting an ecclesiastic, with an identifying inscription 'Nicolò Stenone – N. 1 January 1638 / M. 6 December 1686' applied to the frame. However, the portrait, in terms of painting style, colors, and material characteristics, can be attributed to the second half of the 19th century, not the 17th century, thus being a work created as a tribute or historical reproduction of the person.
The figure, depicted in a half-length view, features a face with intense and profound gazes, rendered with warm tones and precise modeling. The ecclesiastical attire is detailed, with particular attention to the dark robe adorned with red buttons and the white collar. The painted surface shows a homogeneous craquelure across the entire canvas, consistent with the age of the artifact.
The picture is contained within an antique gold frame, also from the same period as the painting, with a pleasing patina of age.
A decorative piece with great historical charm, ideal for classic environments, studies, or collections dedicated to religious portraiture.
Dimensions:
Interior: 53 × 44 cm
Fabric only: 45 × 35 cm
Code: PRT9821
