Description from the seller
Perfect gift for a loved one!
This is one of the cameras in my personal collection.
Released in 1973, the Pentax Spotmatic F is the pinnacle of the famed Spotmatic line — the final evolution of Asahi Pentax’s legendary M42 screw-mount SLRs. While the earlier Spotmatics were known for their exceptional build quality and reliable stop-down metering, the Spotmatic F introduced something revolutionary for the M42 world:
Full-aperture TTL metering
Using a mechanical coupling pin inside the mount, the Spotmatic F can meter wide open with SMC Takumar lenses — a major leap in usability and a first for any M42 camera. This brought the system in line with competing bayonet-mount SLRs while retaining the universal versatility of the screw mount.
Shutter: Horizontal-travel cloth focal-plane
Speeds: 1s – 1/1000s + Bulb
Metering: TTL CdS full-aperture metering with match-needle display
Lens Mount: M42 (Pentax/Praktica screw mount)
Flash Sync: 1/60s
Battery: 1.35V mercury cell equivalent
Viewfinder: Bright Fresnel screen with microprism focusing aid
The build quality is exemplary — a dense, all-metal chassis with a precise shutter mechanism and one of the smoothest wind levers of any 1970s SLR. The Spotmatic F represents the moment when classic M42 simplicity met modern SLR sophistication.
Ergonomically, it is a joy to use: the shutter release is crisp, the mirror return is quick, and the meter display is intuitive. The body feels incredibly solid in hand, a hallmark of Asahi Pentax’s engineering philosophy.
Condition
This Spotmatic F is in excellent mechanical condition. The viewfinder is clear and the mirror is clean, the body only having minor dust and scratches typical of its age.
Cosmetically, the camera retains its original satin-chrome finish with minimal signs of wear.
Photos were taken in natural light to highlight the clean lines, classic Pentax design, and overall preserved condition of the camera.
I feel it's time to find her a new home with someone that can take care of her and put her to good use.
The shipping will be done by courier, with the best protective packaging, insurance and a tracking code, as I would do for myself.
Thank you.
Happy holidays and happy treasure hunting!
