Founder of the Order of the Black Eagle

King Frederick I of Prussia, the grandfather of Frederick the Great, "Old Fritz," established this highest Prussian order the day before his coronation.

An eight-pointed star forms the basis of the breast star of the order's cross. The medallion in the center depicts a black enameled eagle, and the motto of the order is inscribed within the band.
