Djenné Mask - Soninke - Mali

Mask - Djenné - Bronze - Mali.

Old mask from Sofara, a village on the banks of the Bani, near Djenné.
It is very heavy and has some deficiencies on the lower face, as seen in the photos.
Nevertheless, its overall structure is preserved and remains very expressive.
The forehead is bulging and decorated, the eyes are half-open, the nose is long and flattened, and the mouth is finely sculpted.
The edges are scattered with small holes.
The greenish oxidation patina shows that the piece is old.
