Description from the seller
Extremely rare copy exceptionally signed by William Klein on the title page and in perfect condition.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition (like new), kept with the utmost care. Very secure protected shipping and guaranteed international postal tracking. In case of multiple purchases, combined shipping is possible with reimbursement of any excess postal fees paid via Paypal.
Immersed in the crowd of spectators, shoulder to shoulder with the people who crowd into stadiums or in the streets, William Klein has managed to give us these striking images while ensuring their perfect composition. His frontal position in relation to the subject, the fact of appearing clearly, camera in hand, creates a special relationship between the photographer and the photographed subject who sometimes puts himself in representation in front of the lens but who most often remains perfectly natural. The resulting images are the result and the trace of a collective representation of which the photographer was both the witness and one of the protagonists (based on the text by Giovanni Chiaramonte). Texts in Italian by Guy Mandery and Giovanni Chiaramonte.
William Klein ensured the selection of photographs and layout were completed at extremely short notice just after the event and the book was printed in October 1990 while the championship was taking place in July-August.
The start of this championship was marked by a notable event as Argentina, the defending champion, played the opening match of this 1990 edition with Maradona in the spotlight against Cameroon and the competition offered its first surprise with the victory of the Cameroonians. Cameroon even became the first African nation to qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition.
