Original edition. A collection of stories written by Jules Janin and gathered under the general title 'The Blue Birds.'
Charming little stories 'written in the courtyard of the small garden, to the whistles of blackbirds, the chirping of linnets, tits, and the black-headed warbler, while the sparrow chirps and frolics in the clementines of the big wall.' (pp. 3-4)
Contains: The Poet and the Capuchin - The Punishment of Retaliation - The Harpagons - Theodora - The Thirteenth District - False Confidences - Eutyphron's Insomnia.
Set in an elegant half navy blue morocco binding, with raised bands, gilded fleurons and panels, and the title and author's name stamped in small tools. Gilt top. (period binding)
Condition: slight scuffs on the heads, perforated corners, scattered rust spots. Good condition. Untrimmed.
Provenance: from the library of André Barrier, 'President of the Court of Appeal of Paris, President of the Cent Bibliophiles' (manuscript bookplate on the front endpaper).
