Description from the seller
Emilio Beauchy Cano was one of the leading figures of the generation of photographers in late 19th-century Spain, reaching his professional peak around 1880 alongside Antonio Rodríguez Téllez and Luis L. Mariani González. His most productive period spanned from 1882 to 1905, making him the most prominent photographer in the portrait industry in Seville during the late 19th century.
Born on September 20, 1849, at 102 Sierpes Street in Seville, Emilio Beauchy Cano started as a photographer on the roof of his house and eventually opened one of the most important, elegant, and prestigious photography studios in Seville.
He cultivated almost all genres, from photographic portraits of bullfighters, flamenco artists, historical or anonymous figures, to the regional landscapes of Seville and the rest of Andalusia, such as the views of the Alhambra in Granada, the Tajo of Ronda in Málaga province, or the Mosque of Córdoba, among others.
Always with a unique photojournalistic perspective, far ahead of his time, Beauchy Cano left important photographic testimonies of significant events related to the city of Seville.
