Ignorance is Bliss - Agne Kucerenkaite - Carafe - Porcelain

Ignorance is Bliss Porcelain Carafe – Limited Edition Ignorance Is Bliss is an ongoing project by Agne Kucerenkaite that transforms metal waste from water treatment plants, soil-remediation companies, and other industrial streams into refined, functional objects. The project highlights the environmental impact of metal mining, an extractive, non-renewable process and demonstrates how industrial byproducts can be reintroduced into the material cycle as valuable resources. The colours of each piece are created exclusively using industrial metal waste, with up to 40% incorporated directly into the glaze. Every piece is handcrafted and fired in a reduction gas kiln, a traditional kiln atmosphere in which oxygen is intentionally limited. Reduction firing is rare in Europe due to strict environmental regulations and the high level of craftsmanship required, but it creates a depth and richness in colour that cannot be achieved in electric kilns. The atmosphere inside the kiln often produces natural variations and subtle irregularities, each firing is entirely unique. All pieces are food-safe. This carafe is part of the studio’s “Category B” selection, meaning it contains minor visual irregularities while remaining fully functional and structurally sound. On the rim, next to the spout, inside, there is a small area of runaway glaze from the reduction firing. Dimensions: dia 8.3cm, h 21.5cm Volume: 830ml
