Painter and lithographer born in Rouen in 1922, Jean Bréant belongs to the great tradition of the École de Rouen, of which he embodies one of the most sensitive faces of the 20th century. Early on, torn between music and painting, he develops a pictorial language where the harmony of forms and the vibration of colors seem to respond to a true inner musicality.
A passionate self-taught artist, Bréant explores a post-impressionist vein where sensation takes precedence over strict representation. His work unfolds in thematic series — imaginary cathedrals, Normandy landscapes, flowers, marine scenes — always infused with luminous energy and a lively touch.
Exhibited since the post-war period in Rouen salons and later in Paris, he established himself as a singular figure, capable of capturing fleeting emotion and transposing it into images of great poetic intensity. Jean Bréant passed away in 1984, leaving behind a rich, vibrant body of work that remains highly sought after today.
