Photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto's collection “Lapis Lazuli Pure Land / Post Vitam (Signed)”. Beginning with the creation of representative works such as “Diorama,” “Theater,” and “Seascape” from the late 1970s through the 1980s, After launching his signature series “Diorama,” “Theater,” and “Seascape,” he held solo exhibitions that toured the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art in 1994 and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1995. He has continued to present his work at venues including Berlin, Bilbao, the Guggenheim Museum New York (2000), the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (2003), and the Mori Art Museum (2005). Beyond his work as a photographer, he is a conceptual artist who has captivated the world with creations employing diverse expressions—including those of contemporary artists, architects, and directors. His works featuring motifs of “Wa” (Japanese harmony) continue to receive high acclaim internationally. This book is the exhibition catalog for Sugimoto's show held as the inaugural event at the Higashiyama Cube, the new wing of the Kyoto Ceramic Art Museum. It includes works such as “Sea of Buddhas,” featuring a large-format photograph of the central statue at Sanjusangendo Temple newly created for this exhibition, and the world premiere of the large-format color “OPTICKS” series. Signed by the photographer.
