Description from the seller

Large and most refined oval bas-relief in carved and gilded wood.
Venetian Rococo style / Louis XV – 19th century (circa 1850-1890)
Italy (probably the Veneto area) or southern Germany/Austria.
Magnificent decorative panel with high relief depicting a pastoral and romantic scene.
A young couple of lovers (probably Dafni and Cloe or a courting couple) lying in a woodland landscape, accompanied by a dog and a sheep. At the top of the frame, two playful cherubs/putti among vegetal scrolls and rocaille motifs.
Technical details
Relief: finely modeled plaster/stucco with a beautiful patina of ancient ivory.
• Cornice: richly carved and water-gilded wood (original gilding with a splendid worn patina and small chips that add character)
Highly elaborate intaglio with all the typical elements of Venetian/Italian Rococo: C and S-shaped scrolls, acanthus leaves, rocaille, shells, and flowers.
Conditions:
Excellent preservation for its age. Original gilding with normal signs of wear, small chips, and ancient restorations (visible in the photos). No significant cracks or missing parts on the relief.
