2nd half 20th century - Excellent condition, barely used with minimal signs of wear

African Mask in the style of the Tetela people of the Democratic Republic of Congo

PROVENANCE: A Tetela mask I got from a private person succession.

ORIGIN: The Tetela are related to the Songye from Congo.

HEIGHT: 26 cm 36 cm on the custom made metal stand ( included in your package ).

CONDITION: Shiny patina Above the eye the wood seems to have some abrasions ( see picutres) otherwise good condition. Reddish patina from Tokula powder.

Estimated age : 1970's-80

These masks are named as "mwadi," the makers of the mask is from the "Tetela," tribe, and the owner of the mask is a "witch doctor," who used the masks for "the dance of the new moon" and for funerals and marital celebrations.
