2nd half 20th century - Good condition, used with some signs of wear

Luba-Hemba Singiti style figure.

Collected between 1970 and 1980, private Belgian collection.

H= 33 cm, feets broken, liottle wood chip missing at the mouth ( see pictures)

With its serene expression, finely grooved beard, and elaborately constructed hairstyle, this figure embodies the composure, status, and wisdom of a respected elder.
It was inspired to honor the ancestors of the Hemba lineage, t provided a powerful ideological message about family continuity and legitimized the political authority inherited by the ancestor’s living kin.

The figure’s prominent forehead suggests intelligence and may have been viewed as a dwelling place for the spirit.

Despite it's aspect this figure was made for decoration purposes.
