This size is a very rare naval full protractor with large folding sights & small level made by Ertel & Sohn Munchen a German company purchased by Diez in 1890 (Mathematisch-mechanisches Institut fuer geodaetische und militaerwissenschaftliche Instruments') Inscriptions in capital script font on the brass & F.L.S. 85 (nr of the model? )
This is a very large model made of solid brass & reflective silvered steel. Some wear on the silvered finition. Outer venier scales divisions in 100° till 6400° Inner indication divisions in 10° till 6400.
Very large folding sights; at one side metal thread & other side a vertical incision to precise the positions. At the outside there is oxidation on the steel at both sights (1 side worse than other) . A solid brass screw to lock the vision sights. The protractor can be installed on a theodolite or other instruments. Therefor a small solid brass level - bubble gauge is mounted underneath the protractor. A small black circle underneath the glass to position the bubble. According to the age, very little wear and tear on the object. Overall condition is very good.  A very nice & decorative object with a lot of history. Interesting collectors item.
