Chinese porcelain transitional tea caddy – China – 17th Century
On offer is a rare and early 17th Century transitional tea caddy with figural decoration. This tea caddy can be dated to the transitional period ca. 1630-1645 Chongzhen period. Style of decoration and style of facial features and the white color of the clay is typical for the period, as is the typical orange peel at the foot and the unglazed bottom. Decoration consists of a scholar and his student is a landscape setting, all around the tea caddy. Nicely visible concentric circles from modeling the form on the spinning potter’s wheel. Very rare object!
Condition: Very fine condition with no damage. No chips, no frits and no hairlines! Normal age related wear. The collar of the lid may have been somewhat shortened due to some early damage, but this is not for sure!
Size: The teacaddy measures about 12cm in height and measures about 8,5cm across.
