Michel Karis

The design of this Thonet, type 233, dates from 1895. The chair was scattered around the world in the early 20 century, extensively used in restaurants. The chair offered here dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. 
This chair is still delivered by Thonet, the new price is over 900 euro. 

CONDITION:
Good, no breakage or damage in the wood, it does have traces of wear. The back of the backrest is somewhat rough, photographed separately, this only stands out at the back of the chair, at the front there is hardly anything to see. The webbing is from a recent date and in a very good condition. The wood has nicely coloured over time. See all 40 photos for a complete impression.  The chair is marked but only the T and a piece of the h can still be seen. Also a piece of Czechoslovakia.

THONET:
Michael Thonet (1796-1871) was a German-Austrian furniture maker and industrialist and is considered one of the biggest pioneers in furniture design. Thonet founded the company "Thonet Söhne" in Vienna in 1849. In 1851 he introduced the world to his, now legendary, chairs of curved wood. The company merged with Kohn-Mundus in 1922, to the Thonet-Mundus company.
