This is Viz, the visually stunning and rarely seen style magazine, and an even scarcer full set (1978-1981).

Viz appeared at newsagents just as the equally brilliant but short-lived Deluxe magazine folded in 1978.  Its defining characteristics were bold graphic design and an irreverent humour very much of its day.  Much like the French magazine magazine 'Facade' in format; brilliant wrap-around covers that often told an entirely different story with the ‘reveal’.  

With an anarchic approach to its advertising, Viz screams confidence and rides the first swells of the new wave tsunami carving a path shortly to be followed by i-D in 1980.

Published, edited and designed by its founder Ferry Zayadi, Viz touched on the visual side of a number of subjects including music, fashion, architecture, set and shop design.

Much like i-D, Zayadi was interested in personalities - it was all about the people.  

Features included fashion designers - with the 'Hello I'm Kansai Yamamoto' feature, Claude Montana, Katherine Hamnett, Kenzo, Zandra Rhodes, Margaret Howell and JPG.  

Artists Andy Warhol, Allen Jones and Edward Bell.  Musician Brian Eno, the architect Gaetano Pesce, magazine mogul Pearce Marchbank, 

Photographers and film makers Helmut Newton (including one cover), Derek Jarman, Christa Peters & Bob Carlos Clarke, 

It’s the perfect 12”. We only wish it played for longer!

Edition: First, London, Softcover, Staple bound, 52 pages approx per issue.  

15 issues 1-15.  Scarce and all in excellent condition. Very rare indeed.

The archive’s primary theme is fashion with substantial complementary collections of esoteric arts, counterculture and media titles ranging from extremely rare runs of pre-war Vogue, to complete sets of genre-defining titles like Nova, i-D and Fleur Cowles' Flair.
