Leo Setz

A beautiful work of art ("harbour view of Hong Kong", watercolour) by the Dutch painter Cees Bolding (1897-1979). With a mat. Signed at the bottom left and dated 1962. The dimensions with the mat: 70 cm. x 50 cm. The image dimensions are: 43 cm. x 35 cm. The condition of the work of art is very good. The work can be seen at Kunsthandel Martins in 2nd Exloërmond (Drenthe).

Cees Bolding, from Zaankant by birth, was a very versatile and gifted artist. He was educated at the National Academy in Amsterdam by J.H. Jurres and Nicolaas van der Waay. Afterwards he specialized in the painting of cityscapes, landscapes, portraits, sea and harbour views. He was also a gifted watercolourist. From Amsterdam, where he lived until 1936, he often travelled about 1923 with Wim Wouters to Volendam to work there. In the years 1937 to 1963 he taught at the Academy of art in the Hague, the last 18 years as Deputy Director. Bolding was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and St. Lucas and was a founding member of the Rembrandt Society.
