Particularly large and museum-worthy watercolour by William Edwards Croxford (1852-1926).

Scene of barges (Bomschuiten) on the beach in Scheveningen from circa 1895.

The watercolour is in a beautiful condition and features a handmade painted frame (see photos).

Ready to be put on display.

From 1 July - 20 September 2000, this work hung in the Katwijksmuseum in the exhibition 'Vissersleven langs de Noordzee en de Zuiderzee' and is also depicted in this exhibition catalogue on page 51.

Because of its large size and because the work is framed behind glass, pickup is preferable!

More information about the artist:
William Edward Croxford - (British, Newlyn School 1851-1926) was popular for his beautiful sea and landscape pieces.

He was born in Brentford, Essex in 1851 and spent the first part of his career painting in St Leonards on Sea and also in Hastings for a short time, both in England.

In 1892, he moved to Cornwall, where he worked thirty-four years of his life from his studio in Newquay. His works are generally associated with the Newlyn School of Artists.

In circa 1895, he visited the Netherlands and made - in the tradition of the Hague school painters - beach views, including the beaches of Katwijk and Scheveningen.

His paintings are exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute and the Walker Gallery Liverpool.
