About the artist:
Wim Motz lived and worked in Rotterdam, some time in Antwerp and Charleroi, and after 1924 again in Rotterdam. Only at the age of 37 did Wim Motz start his career as a painter.
He got drawing lessons from Jan van Straten, but was mainly self-taught. A diligent artist who had a pretty quick success with exhibitions in, among others, America, Canada, Switzerland and Belgium. His paintings and drawings from his early period are figurative and later his work becomes more abstract. He applied the paint to the canvas with a spatula. Motz was also called ‘painter of the colour’.
His work is included in the ‘Rijkscollectie’ (art collection of the kingdom of the Netherlands).
